Access Statement for The Old Police House Annex

We are grateful to the Events and Promotions Service (Tourist Information Centre) of Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council for their assistance in preparing this Access Statement.

Introduction

Our self catering annex is attached to the Old Police House which is the proprietors’ main residence. The property is set on the outskirts of Upper Haugh (a small hamlet) offering facilities for up to 4 guests which includes 1 double bedroom and 1 double sofa bed. The annexe is a single storey new building and whilst we aim to meet the needs of the guests there are features that might make access difficult for people with limited mobility. The rooms are all on one level, however, they are not suitable for wheelchair users because of the width of some of the doors.

  • Nearest Railway Stations are Rotherham and Swinton – both a 10 minute journey by car.
  • Accessible taxis are available locally and should be booked in advance. Details of these can be made available.

Arrival and Car Parking Facilities

  • Please advise your anticipated arrival time so that there is someone here to welcome you
  • Parking is available off street on a driveway which can easily accommodate 2 cars and is in front of the main entrance
  • There is a doorbell on the right hand side of the door
  • Assistance with luggage

Main Entrance

  • The main entrance is to the front of the property, with a 6 inch step
  • The front door leads to the entrance and hallway with access to the cloakroom, shower room and kitchen

Kitchen/Dining Area and Lounge

  • The kitchen/dining area with feature roof light, is open plan to the large lounge from which patio doors open onto the courtyard garden
  • There is vinyl flooring to the kitchen whilst the dining area and lounge is carpeted
  • There is a moveable table and four straight back chairs in the dining area
  • There is a television and DVD Player in the lounge
  • There is a double sofa bed, two easy chairs with arms and footstools

Laundry

  • Automatic washing machine available in the kitchen
  • Iron and ironing board available
  • Dryer available on request
  • Retractable line available

Bedroom

  • The bedroom has a double bed with wardrobe with 3 drawers, two 3 drawer bedside cabinets, television point
  • Non Feather duvets and pillows provided
  • Sheets, duvets and pillow cases are cotton
  • Flooring is carpet
  • Door to Ensuite bathroom

Ensuite Bathroom + Shower room and WC

  • Ensuite bathroom has a standard suite with Vinyl floor and dressing table
  • The Shower room which is situated off the hallway has a standard shower cubicle with a 6 inch step and a thermostatic shower and standard WC and basin

  • Fan assisted electric double oven

  • There is a fire-blanket in the kitchen
  • The property can be evacuated by the front door and also via the patio door in the lounge
  • Smoking is not permitted in the house or the garden
  • Mobile phone available for use in emergencies
  • Mobile phone reception at the property is generally good
